The signed agreement will help to the local authorities and to the public utility companies to realize the projects based on co-financing by the European Regional Development Fund (ERAF), arranging water management in the populated areas with a population of up to 2000.
The Fund has accumulated great experience in water management projects and therefore Fund not only issue loans for pre-financing mentioned above projects, but also provide support and advice in the preparation of the project, monitoring of implementation, as well as post-implementation monitoring.
Cooperation with the NEFCO began in August 1998, when Fund signed the first funding agreement for 3.5 million EUR to assign for realization of the small municipal water and wastewater projects in Latvia.
In November 2005, Fund expanded cooperation with NEFCO and signed the second financing agreement of the granting of credit line by the ERAF co-financed water project pre-financing of amount of 3 million EUR. Within two years the assigned credit line was repeatedly used for three times, the overall financing the implementation of the 30 projects for a total of 9 million EUR. In May 2008 the Fund fully pay back the credit line.
As the largest of projects that implemented by NEFCO co-financing are water management object construction and reconstruction in Aizkraukle, Bauska, Dobele, Gulbene, Kraslava, Kuldiga, Limbazi, Saldus and Sigulda of the total amount more than 21.5 million LVL. All financed projects are successfully functioning and repaying the loans.
Environmental Investment Fund finance infrastructure projects in different areas of the environment - environmentally friendly heating, water management, and cleaner production, thermal insulation of buildings and recycling of waste.
