From 15 to 17 April, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa will take part in a discussion on reducing plastic pollution in seas and oceans at the 9th "Our Ocean" conference in Athens, Greece. During the conference, she will meet the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis , and the Minister of Economy of Kosovo, Artane Rizvanolli, to hear about their experiences in building wind farms.

During the discussion, the Minister will present Latvia's progress in researching plastic pollution, waste and packaging management, and reducing plastic consumption. She also plans to highlight the importance of international cooperation in the fight against plastic pollution of the seas and oceans, which is a global challenge.

The first "Our Ocean" conference was initiated by US Secretary of State John Kerry in 2014. This year marks the ninth Our Ocean Conference, which will focus on issues such as reducing plastic and microplastic pollution, green shipping, sustainable island and coastal tourism, and opportunities for the Mediterranean ecosystem in the transition to greener lifestyles.
