On Wednesday, November 26, Minister Raimonds Čudars met with representatives of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to discuss current developments in digital transformation and the development of a European sovereign cloud. In addition, topics such as strengthening European digital independence, data management and resilience were discussed, taking into account the geopolitical specifics of the Baltic region. The minister emphasized that it is important for Latvia to develop and use modern and secure digital infrastructure both at the national level and in cooperation with reliable partners.
During the meeting, the Latvian side emphasized its advantages as a suitable location for data centers — modern and fast network infrastructure, availability of green energy, as well as a strategic location in the center of the Baltic region. The talks also covered potential cooperation, including the possibility of increasing AWS's presence in Latvia.
