In late September, partners of the Interreg-funded Sustainability reporting tool (SusTool) project gathered in Latvia, for a three-day meeting combining project discussions with company visits. The event focused on finalizing project activities and exchanging insights on how businesses put sustainability into practice.

Project partners reviewed the projects plan, communication strategies, dissemination activities, and upcoming transfer seminars. Central to the project is the ESG Tool - a free digital platform that helps companies launch their sustainaility journey, understand environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria and prepare for sustainability reporting.

The program also featured visits to three Latvian companies:

Valmiera Fiberglass: A major industrial manufacturer with a strong environmental policy focused on resource efficiency, recycling, waste prevention, and energy reduction.

Valmiermuiža Brewery: A small manor brewery rooted in Latvian tradition, promoting local culture while building international markets. It is also a founder of the Latvian Independent Brewers” movement.

Madara Cosmetics: An internationally recognized producer of natural and organic beauty products, committed to sustainable sourcing, low-impact manufacturing, and social responsibility.

These visits demonstrated how sustainability can take different forms across industries - from heavy manufacturing to consumer goods. For the SusTool partners, they provided valuable real-world context to the ESG Tools digital framework.

The Valmiera meeting strengthened collaboration among project partners and reinforced a shared goal: to make sustainability more accessible for businesses across the Baltic region and beyond.

Latest information about the project:

Project partners include the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications as the lead partner from Estonia, and as partners: the Ministry of Finance, Zero Waste Estonia and ITL from Estonia; VARAM and LIKTA from Latvia; DIMECC LTD from Finland, INFOBALT from Lithuania and several associated partners from the mentioned countries, as well as Poland. The project will conclude on December 31, 2025.
