Riga, 25 November 2020 - Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM), in cooperation with the State Administration School * 26 November from .9 .30 to 12.30 host a live conference entitled “Digital accessibility. Practice. Examples" with a view to raising awareness of the importance of accessing websites and mobile applications in today's society, as well as explaining developments.

Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Protection for digital transformation: "We call on every institution that uses a variety of digital solutions on screens, including smartphones, its services and information, to implement the principles of digital accessibility. . By improving this, we not only provide an opportunity to access information even if a person has any functional limitations, but we all get from it – simpler, more convenient, more discernible digital solutions."

At the conference, experts – Vita Vodinska, project manager of the Unified Platform of State Chancery Networks, VARAM head of the Information Society Policy Coordination Division, Margarita Krišlauka, project manager of the Centre for Cultural Information Systems, Janis Oblins, head of the project of the Alliance of Disabled People and Their Friends, Daina Podziņa etc. – talk about both formal and technical requirements for the introduction of digitally accessible solutions, as well as clear aspects of relevance for people with visual, hearing, mobility and perceptions m. Experts will also encourage public administrations and private organisations to take care of the accessibility of their sites and information technology professionals to strengthen their expertise on UX design (user experience) - and accessibility issues.

Digital accessibility is also updated by Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the Council of the European Parliament on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications for public sector bodies and by BOM Regulation No. of 14 July 2020. .445 “order for authorities to place information on the Internet”.
