NOBID is one of the large-scale EU Digital Identity Wallet pilot projects. Its goal is to develop a prototype of the European Union Digital Identity Wallet based on the European Digital Identity Wallet Architecture and Reference Framework published by the European Commission, and to test and promote the development and implementation of use cases within the wallet, involving stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. The pilot tests the interoperability and scalability of the developed solutions in both national and cross-border implementation contexts. The NOBID pilot project specifically focuses on the payment use case.
Activities planned:
• During the pilot project, prototypes of the European Digital Identity Wallet have been developed.
• In Latvia, a Model B wallet is being developed, which means that a new digital identity wallet prototype is being created. In contrast, other consortium member states are piloting using a digital identity wallet application developed by the Czech company Thales.
• The primary focus is on the payment use case and its variations.
• The Latvian partner RTU is also testing the use of education documents in the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
• The resulting digital identity wallet prototype is being tested in a test environment involving focus group participants. Initial testing in Latvia began in April 2025.
• The consortium actively promotes the opportunities of the new European Digital Identity Wallet and supports member states in building the necessary knowledge and infrastructure to facilitate wallet adaption, in accordance with the obligations set out in Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024, amending Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 as regards establishing a framework for a European Digital Identity.
Benefits:
Access to a new-generation EU-wide mobile eID solution – the European Digital Identity Wallet. The pilot project promotes the implementation of the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024, amending Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 as regards establishing a framework for a European Digital Identity, and provides support to Member States in the development of European Digital Identity Wallet solutions, including ensuring their interoperability at the EU level.
